Psychotherapy & Counselling

Counselling

Counselling will often focus on shorter-term issues. These might relate for example to loss or bereavement, although these sometimes might need to be addressed in a longer-term process. Often counselling can be useful in the short-term to help the client with some behavioural changes for example at work or in relationships.

The terms ‘counselling’ and ‘psychotherapy’ are normally used synonymously to reflect their similar meanings, however there are some slight differences.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is more likely to deal with longer-term issues and might require deeper work which has no clearly defined end-point. The longer-term work might be required if the issues are related to well established behaviours, thoughts and feelings which might stem from early relationships with parents, care givers and teachers. Making these deeper changes requires hard work and commitment.

Contact Me

I offer one-to-one counselling and psychotherapy, and I provide a space for you to open up and explore difficult issues in a safe and non-judgemental environment, whatever the issues presented. This often requires exploring and gaining an understanding of past issues and/or traumas. Depending on the individual situation, you will then be enabled to review your patterns of behaviour and relationships and take action towards change. The general aim is to help you find healthier and more satisfying ways of living your life. In addition, you might have specific aims that I can help you achieve.
