Attachment Therapy
Attachment therapy focuses on understanding and healing attachment styles formed in childhood that continue to impact relationships, self-image, and emotional regulation. Many adults find that attachment-based approaches help them understand how early relationships with caregivers influenced their behaviours and interactions with others in their current relationships as adults.
For adults with attachment-related challenges, managing emotions can be difficult. Attachment therapy provides tools for identifying and regulating emotions, especially those tied to insecurity, rejection, and closeness. Some of the work may include a focus on skills like mindfulness, self-compassion and coping mechanisms to improve emotional stability.
Towards Healing
Attachment therapy often involves revisiting and processing painful childhood experiences to understand how they influence present-day feelings and behaviours. Inner child work can be very beneficial by dealing with early life emotional difficulties and traumas. This process can help adults confront fears of rejection, abandonment, or intimacy that might be rooted in early-life emotional neglect or trauma. Working through these experiences helps clients develop healthier beliefs, behaviours and relationships.
